A first hint what the name "Heidbüchel"
means I got while studying in Aachen. There was a street called "Am
Büchel" going up a hill.
A few years later I learned that in different areas
in Germany words like Bügel, Bückel, Büchel etc. mean
something like hill or small mountain.
When I looked into a book with explanations of different
names I learned that the part "Heid" of a names means "great"
or "big".
Next I discovered a hill named Heidbüchel in the
Eifel. This hill is near by the small town Adenau and the Nürburg
Ring. The height of this hill is 601 meters.
So I think that the meaning of the name "Heidbüchel"
is something like "great hill".
